With the large popularity of Disgaea, it wasn't very surprising when a sequel was announced.  Here's an impression.

Is experience distribution more balanced than it was in the original? Because that was one of my main issues with the first.

Very nice impression, but it is a bringer of bad news for me.  I couldn't stand the battle mechanics of the original Disgaea, so I guess I shouldn't wait my time with this one.  I usually love tactical RPG, but I just couldn't get into it because of that.

Nice impression!

I welcome the fact that Disgaea 2 is more like the original. I didn't really like how Phantom Brave made you use items to summon allies onto the field.

I like straightforward grid based strategy games.

Well, I really wouldn't define Disgaea as straightforward given its complex mechanisms contained to other TRPGs...Shining Force and Fire Emblem are more straightforward in my opinion.

It really depends on your playing style since characters rarely gain exp unless they finish off an enemy.  On the plus side, treasure chests and geo symbols are worth exp, and healer classes gain a pretty good amount of exp for healing, at least early on.  For a large chunk of the game, my healer was my second highest level character.  I don't recall that ever being the case in the original.

The only thing that dissapointed me was the lack of the original trio.

What do you mean?  They're all in it in some shape or form.  I won't spoil the specifics though.

This game is great, easily my favorite of all NIS' PS2 SRPGs (and I've liked all of them thus far except La Pucelle). I put 60 hours into the import, and as far as the gameplay is concerned it's everything the original was and more.

I can't speak for the story, but if you liked the gameplay in the original, there shouldn't be any reason why you shouldn't like this one even more.

I really liked the original's story, and the story battles the first time around are pretty difficult the first time around which I also liked.  The one thing that really turned me off towards the end was the Majin class, since it was better at EVERYTHING.  I felt that my army lost all of its character when I switched over to Majins.  I also remember being fairly frustrated at times with how weapons and armor were organized.  I thought in general it was easier to level up weapon using classes than magic using ones, so I think that could use a tweak or two there as well.

Well, attack magicians really saved me at times, and it was healers in particular that were difficult for me to level up, though it is somewhat my fault for not having magicians create them in the first place :p

While I really liked both Disgaea and Phantom Brave, I could never muster up the patience to level everyone up. I couldn't finish either of the games before returning them. ><

I'm still going to try Disgaea 2, though. Who knows, it just might be different this time around.

Me and a friend have plans to both get this the day it comes out, set up our TV's next to each other, and go at it until we pass out on his couch.  Yay!
