Not sure... Dofus, the other MMO by this company, is technically F2P but is really more of a subscription-based MMO with a limited trial. I don't think they've released full details of their payment plan/s for Wakfu yet.

I won't touch it if it's not F2P, mostly because I do not have a steady amount of money coming into my hands. So P2P is out of the question.
Funny you feel that way about Dofus, too. I asked Ankama about revenue models for Wakfu back in 2009 (see 2nd question). I shared my experience that Dofus was more of a trial in the question, and they disagreed.
