    A Year of Western RPGs

For 2012, RPGamer will be hosting its fourth gaming marathon. This year we will be taking a closer look at those RPGs developed in the Western market, be it North America or Europe. These games usually have much different themes and play styles than their Japanese counterparts. This is also a decidedly PC-centric list this year, demonstrating another difference between Eastern and Western developers. I hope that everyone enjoys the ride this year.

January - The Witcher - PC - Thread

    Feburary - Mass Effect 1/2 - XBOX 360, PS3 (for ME2 only), PC Thread

March - Fallout - PC Thread

April - The Elder Scrolls III, Morrowind - PC, XBOX Thread

May - Septerra Core - PC Thread

June - Ultima VII: The Black Gate - PC, SNES Thread

July - Might & Magic VI - PC Thread

August - Planescape: Torment - PC Thread

September - Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura - PC Thread

October (Happy Halloween!) - Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines - PC Thread

    November - Baldur's Gate 2 - PC Thread

December - Deus Ex - PC Thread

I don't know if I'll complete any of the games, byt I'll be joining in for:
    May
    August
    September
    October
    November

When I get paid this week, I'll probably jump on board for January, I got February covered (still addicted to ME2, STILL ADDICTED! D: ), and I got April covered. The rest I'll need to buy during their respective months.

I went a bit crazy at the GOG Holiday sale, and ended up buying many of the games listed here and then some (Ultima 1-3 and 4-6? Yay!). I intend to join in for March, and (I hope) May-November. We'll see if I actually stick to it, instead of missing out on the first couple of months and just completely giving up entirely like I did last year. A bit funny considering that I'm still almost exclusively a player of JRPGs. :P

August for the destroyer! I will be joining in for that one for sure, despite having played the game to death.

I might swing by for the February Mass Effect-a-thon but only for the first game which I still need to finish. I still have too many games left over from last year I need to plow through...
So long & thanks for all the fish!

I'll be joining in during February for Mass Effect 2. Probably October as well as I bought Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines on Steam on a whim, but never have played it.

Ultima VII, Planescape, Baldur's Gate II, and Deus Ex??

... I knew there was a reason I loved this site!

I've always wanted to try Septerra Core, I'll have to pick that one up somehow.

Woah, I've actually finished 9 of the 13 games there. The only ones I need to play and finish are Fallout, M&M6, Ultima VII and Arcanum.

So I'm in for March and September... not too sure about M&M6 and Ultima VII. Maybe someone here could be able to convince me why those two are good, and inspire me to sign up for June/July?
Wait a second... If you're here, than that means... oh boy

Ultima VII is basically The Elder Scrolls if it was top-down 2D and made in 1992. Unlike The Elder Scrolls, it actually has a really good story.

Interesting. Never heard of it until people started talking about it here. Wishlisting it for later.

Basically a JRPG made by Western devs.

Yeah, which surprises me that it made the list given the resistance to Anachronox. But since this is more easily available I'm glad a Western JRPG made it on the list.

What little I've played of it wasn't very good.

Septerra Core was amazing when I played it. For me it's the only game that felt and played like Chrono Trigger. Much more than Chrono Cross did. I never actually finished it because I got stuck in the game and didn't know where to go anymore (I hate using walkthroughs).

Hmmm. Interesting. I might check it out during May.

I'm probably to going to break on Witcher this month and work on Mass Effect so I can properly participate next month by plowing into Mass Effect 2. I'll catch up to Witcher though.

I'll probably get started on a Mass Effect 1 while I wait for payday so I can get The Witcher.

Yeah, of all the GoG titles, Septerra Core struck me as the most interesting.
