good idea. more people can play it now. plus they said they wanted it to be on a portable from the beginning.
Too bad Sega has not released the original Phantasy Star remakes for the Vita.
While Sega Ages Phantasy Star Generations 1 and 2 were released in Japan, it never got released in North America as planned.
Having Phantasy Star Generations 1 and 2 released for the PS Vita, especially for North American audiences, is not a bad idea.
I wonder how Sega will pull this off? In order for the game to be playable across platforms (PSV and PC), this means one version either has to have beefed up specs, or one has to have gimped specs. How will this work? Will the PC version have bad graphics and limited gameplay? There's no way the Vita version can produce the same experience as a PC version.

I'm not sure why there's no home console release announced. At least the game has actual online support, but why not offer big screen experiences? This is especially befuddling since you can do mouse+KB on the PS3. I just hope this Vita release doesn't end up being a game designed to the exclusion of everyone outside Japan.
Well, it IS Sega, so we can never be too sure, and there are almost certain to be at least some graphics or framerate compromises, to say nothing of not being able to effectively text chat.

I hope this does well on the Vita, but I must confess to only doing so in the (vain) hope that they'll actually greenlight a Phantasy Star V as a result.

^This is what I meant in a nutshell. I think about Final Fantasy CC; Echoes of Time which was playable across the DS and Wii and I am concerned. Is a PS Vita is as powerful as a PC. Sega would have to dumb down the PC version...scaled down character models, and game play. Time will tell I guess. I look forward to an RPGamer preview :-)
Echoes of time was a completely different situation. Why would they have to scale down the PC version? Just like say, first person shooters on PC can play online together using various different graphic settings, so could a Vita and PC version play together using different graphics engines. Remember that we already have Vita games playing against their PS3 counterparts, which obviously are not displaying said games with the same level of detail.

Well, from a game developer's viewpoint it doesn't sound too hard to program the gameplay core once and then put a visual layer on top that is replacable. You could even make a game and then make it work with both traditional retro 8-bit NES graphics and HD graphics. Some shmups even have that integrated and you can switch it while playing!
It's looking so great so far. I can't wait, but I've also heard that the release date has been pushed back to 2012 in Japan? This is, of course, according to PSO-World and their current feed on PSO2. here is some more info about it http://www.dotmmo.com/phantasy-star-online-2-8648.html
