Brandish: The Dark Revenant Makes its E3 Debut

XSEED has revealed its last surprise before E3 begins: a new Falcom title. Our local guru and editor Michael Cunningham predicted this title back in 2009, and now it's a reality.

The gameplay is similar to Brandish for SNES. There are versions of Brandish released before the SNES one but I'm not familiar with those.
The main difference is all graphics are now in 3D for this remake. If you look at this let's play of SNES Brandish, I'm sure you'll agree the non-animations leave something to be desired.

Also, there is some extra gameplay added in this remake that can be accessed after clearing the game.

A friend was visiting a few weeks back, and she happened to show me some of the Japanese import version of the game while we were hanging out (via an archive of a stream of her playing it, she didn't have it with her). It looked cool! Challenging, but cool.

    Oh... uh... it looks... dated...

I like dungeon crawlers but WOW, it has not aged well.

It came out in Japan over five years ago

I think it looks pretty good for a PSP game, actually. I rather like how XSEED announces a new PSP game immediately after Sony announces the PSP is dead. I'm looking forward to this; I've never played a Brandish game before.

No argument on the age of the graphics. This type of game isn't usually my cup of tea, but the controls and gameplay looked pretty novel at least.

Bah, here I am waiting for a new Brandish title and, because it's on Sony handheld platforms, it's of course digital-only. Way to crush the dream there, XSeed...
